Marriott Platinum challenge: how it works (2026)
Updated
A Marriott Bonvoy Platinum challenge gives you Platinum Elite (or Gold, depending on the package) right away and lets you keep Platinum by completing a set number of paid nights, 8 nights in our packages, instead of the usual 50. Completed challenges keep Platinum through February 2028. If you don't want any stay requirement, instant Platinum is the alternative.
Platinum Elite normally takes 50 nights
Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite requires 50 elite nights in a calendar year. Status then runs until February of the year after next, so nights earned in 2026 give status through February 2028.
The two challenge options
Gold → Platinum: Gold Elite immediately; complete 8 paid nights by February 28, 2027 to unlock Platinum through February 2028. This is the lowest-cost route to Platinum if you will be travelling anyway.
Platinum challenge: Platinum Elite immediately, valid through February 28, 2027; complete 8 paid nights to keep Platinum through February 2028.
Instant Platinum instead
Instant Platinum places Platinum Elite on your account through February 2028 with no stays required, and includes bonus Bonvoy points. Options with +36,000 and +56,000 bonus points are available; the +56,000 option has the lowest cost per point.
What you need to provide
Your name as it appears on the account, an email address and your 9-digit Bonvoy member number. Never share your Marriott password with anyone.
FAQ
- Do award nights count toward the challenge?
- Our challenge packages require paid nights. Award nights should not be relied on to complete them.
- What if I don't finish the 8 nights?
- You keep the tier until the trial window ends, then return to the status you earned yourself.
- Is instant Platinum better than the challenge?
- Instant Platinum suits people who won't travel enough to complete 8 nights. The challenge costs less if you will.
